Filerev Reviews

Deciding whether to trust Filerev with your Google Drive? Here are selected reviews from the Google Workspace Marketplace, Google Play, SourceForge and the press, quoted word for word and linked to the originals. The critical ones are included, with my reply under each. I read and answer every review personally, and some of Filerev’s best improvements came from critical reviews.

Ratings and counts are as shown on each store; click any rating for the live figure and every review. Many of the lower ratings date from before 2023, when the free plan was far more limited. Today it scans up to 1 million files and allows 500 deletions a month, and as Filerev grows, the free plan keeps growing with it. No review is paid for or removed, and every critical review gets a public reply.

What reviewers say worked

800+ GB drive, now 300+ GB of useful files

★★★★★

“Thank you so much. As a web developer, this app is a life saver for reeling in the massive amounts of files spread everywhere across too many clouds. Between Google Drive, Dropbox, and OneDrive, my Chromebook, and my Windows desktop(s), all of them have had some situation where folders (and files) files were duplicated, folders (and files) were empty, and huge files disappeared into unknown places. This app took care of all that and I’ve tidied up my 800+GB drive (now 300+GB of useful files)”

Ben Schrader, 5 stars, Google Play, May 2022

Over 600 GB down to under 300 GB in one month

★★★★★

“I paid for a better reviewed app which didn’t see to find everything and wasn’t clear on how it determines duplicates nor if you could modify how dups are determined, so I Paid $30/month for this app with the intent to use for one month to clean massive dups and empty folders. It does byte for byte scanning, has clear usage information and known limitations. Works amazing to clean both Google My Drive and My Computer sections (with various backup uploads of old computers). I’m not done yet but so far $30 to save me 10’s or even 100’s of hours of manual cleaning seems like a great deal to me. Lowering my drive from over 600GB to less than 300GB with little effort, then I plan to download what remains to current computer, sort and further cleanup to end the madness.”

Charles Paskerian, 5 stars, Google Workspace Marketplace, August 2026

500,000 duplicates deleted in four hours

★★★★☆

“Too new a user, so too soon for 5 stars. I started a free trial and signed up for 1 month. I’ve had my Google drive forever. I started small, now I’m getting space warnings on 2Tb. Clearly I’m hoarding 😉. I’ve been using this for 4 hours and have deleted 500k duplicates !!!!! I had to go Premium+ (premium $30/mth plus $20) which buys me 1.5m deletions and 10m files. I shouldn’t need a cleanup like this for another couple years. $50 well spent.”

Debra Fezza Reed, 4 stars, Google Play, July 2023

65 GB of duplicates removed instead of buying storage

★★★★★

“I have been active in computer technology since 1989. On occasion, an App comes along that is a game changer. This is precisely such an App. In a relatively short time, I was able to remove approximately 65GB of duplicate files from my Google Drive, which was a far better solution than paying for more storage (beyond my 200GB) on an ongoing basis. So, kudos to the developer, Brett Batie, for his hard work and the degree of excellence he has achieved with this App. Thank you so very much!”

David Etengoff, 5 stars, Google Workspace Marketplace, February 2021

The free plan was enough

★★★★★

“Worked well to help me sweep through my files and remove more than 1GB of duplicate content as of Dec 2025/Jan 2026! The free plan was sufficient for my needs even though you can only complete one scan per month. I reviewed my files based on the scan, removed many dupes, and re-scanned a month later to make sure I was comfortable with what remained.”

Kendra Andersen, 5 stars, Google Workspace Marketplace, January 2026

Exact duplicates only, no look-alikes

★★★★★

“Very surprised at so many critical comments . i found this an excellent tool, doing everything I expected. it accurately identifies exact duplicates with different names, avoiding close look-alikes, which is great!”

Patrick Ayre, 5 stars, Google Play, December 2024

Founder replied the same day

★★★★★

“Filerev has been a lifesaver in an archive project I have been working on. It has saved me countless hours reviewing files for duplicate copies. The most incredible part is when I had a question, Brett (the founder) replied the same day and helped me understand how to better use the program!”

Kia Sinay, 5 stars, Google Workspace Marketplace, March 2026

Gained back 50% of my storage

★★★★★

“The Filerev app is the best solution for eliminating duplicates in Google Drive. It didn’t require me to download all of my files but quickly let me browse my duplicate files. Then, I clicked one button to delete the duplicates. It took only a few minutes, and I gained back 50% of my storage space. I’d been putting up with those duplicates for far too long.”

Jordan B., IT Administrator, 5 stars, SourceForge, June 2024

See what is using your storage. The free scan takes a few minutes and changes nothing until you say so.

“Filerev does what Google Drive should do.”

“Just nuking that, alone, will move my storage utilization from a stressful 58TB down to a more calming 47TB. And there’s no way I would have known that without Filerev.”

“It’s also a bit of a worry, because you have to open up access to your files to Filerev. But while I am a bit concerned by that security issue, Batie says that the tool retrieves mostly metadata and not file contents.”

David Gewirtz, ZDNet, October 2023

“In fact, it’s exactly what Google Drive has been missing for all of these years.”

“The level of granular control you have here feels unprecedented.”

“I do wish though that navigating to your scan results was a bit easier.”

The critical reviews, answered

These are the complaints that come up most often, quoted from real reviews, with my answer to each. If you are deciding whether Filerev is right for you, this section will probably help more than the praise above.

“You can’t do anything in the free version”

“The app said it was free. Yet its a pay wall. You cant do anything in the free version. There are other apps and other ways to do the same thing for free. Even using some of google build in tools.”

Wall Street, 2 stars, Google Workspace Marketplace, February 2025
Brett, founder

The free plan is a permanent tier, not a preview. It runs a full scan of your My Drive, up to 1 million files, shows every result, and lets you delete or move 500 files a month, Bulk Delete included. One scan per month is the main limit. Where it genuinely isn’t enough is an account with hundreds of thousands of duplicates, and that is what the paid plans are for.

“Subscription prices are ridiculous”

“The tool is obnoxiously expensive. I would have had to pay $250/month to manage my files with Filerev… that’s 30X what it costs me to store 2TB of files on Google Drive. The price to value of this product is way out of whack.”

Personal Gmail, 1 star, Google Workspace Marketplace, December 2024
Brett, founder

Filerev is priced for a cleanup, not for a lifetime. Most paying customers take a monthly plan, finish their cleanup in a few hours or days, and cancel. Charles and Debra above describe exactly that. The $250 figure is the very top of the Premium range, which exists for accounts with many millions of files and over a million deletions a month. Accounts that size are rare, and smaller accounts pay far less.

“You have to give permission to access all the files on your drive”

“The app is very poor. It shows duplicate files, but you have to choose them individually, one by one, to delete them. There is also a security concern, as you have to give permission to access all the files on your drive. Not recommended at all.”

Animesh Majumdar, 1 star, Google Play, July 2024
Brett, founder

A fair question to ask of any app. Full Drive access is the only Google permission that lets Filerev see every file and then delete or move the ones you choose. It reads metadata only, such as names, sizes, dates and content hashes, never the contents of your files, and it never deletes or moves anything without your action. An independent lab tests Filerev every year under Google’s CASA program, at Assurance Level 2. And you don’t have to delete duplicates one by one: Bulk Delete is included on the free plan.

“I didn’t get an email reminder that my plan is renewing”

“It works fine, but I’m disappointed that I didn’t get an email reminder that my plan is renewing each month. Sucks because I only scanned 1 time out of the 3 that I had, and those don’t roll over. And I didn’t intend for this to continue the subscription (again, I thought I was going to be reminded) so when it charged again I immediately had to go in and cancel it. Frustrating considering the vast majority of apps and plugs give you better transparency.”

Gemma’s Hope, 3 stars, Google Workspace Marketplace, May 2026
Brett, founder

This one is on us to be clear about. Monthly plans send an email receipt with every charge but no reminder before it. Annual plans get a reminder 30 days before renewal. If you only need a one-time cleanup, the monthly plan is the right choice: cancel from Settings at any time in a couple of clicks, and your access continues to the end of the period you paid for.

“It moved them to root and I’m left with mess”

“It did find duplicates, but moved them to root and I’m left with mess”

Barber Kopytek, 2 stars, Google Workspace Marketplace, April 2026
Brett, founder

This was a real issue in spring 2026, and I am sorry it landed on this reviewer. For some files whose ownership or location had changed since the scan, Filerev removed the file from its folder instead of trashing it, which left it in the root of My Drive. That was fixed in April 2026. Two safeguards apply regardless: every deletion goes to your Google Drive trash, recoverable for 30 days, and Filerev’s Restore All Files feature puts everything in your trash back into its original folders in one click.

“I wish it could dedupe between Google Photos and Google Drive”

“So far it’s been excellent. The only wish I have is that there would be a way to dedupe between google photos and google drive; since Google split them apart this has been a huge factor in my space being eaten up by duplicates. If that were able to be dealt with, nothing else would touch this product.”

Christopher Bramley, 5 stars, Google Workspace Marketplace, April 2026
Brett, founder

This is the most requested feature, and the obstacle is on Google’s side: Google does not give third-party apps like Filerev access to list or delete the photos in your Google Photos library, so there is no way to compare it against your Drive. Filerev does find duplicate photos and videos stored in Google Drive itself, including ones with different file names. If Google changes that, this feature goes to the top of my list.

How we handle reviews. No review on any platform has ever been paid for or incentivized. Every Filerev user gets the same in-app request to rate their experience, whatever that experience was. We do not ask for reviews to be removed, and we never flag a review just because it is negative. I reply to critical reviews publicly on the store where they were posted, and the quotes on this page are reproduced exactly as written, typos included, with a link to the original.

Common questions from people reading Filerev reviews

Is Filerev safe?

Yes. Filerev is tested every year by an independent security lab under Google’s Cloud Application Security Assessment (CASA) program and is verified at Assurance Level 2, the highest level. It reads file metadata only, never your file contents, and your Google access tokens are individually encrypted. You can revoke Filerev’s access from your Google Account at any time. Full details, audit letters and dates are on Is Filerev safe?

Is Filerev legit?

Filerev has been in business since 2020, first as Clean Drive and as Filerev since 2023. The name change was only for better trademark protection. More than 230,000 people have created accounts and the app has over 273,000 installs from the Google Workspace Marketplace, where Google reviews every app before listing it. It has been reviewed by ZDNet and Chrome Unboxed. Subscriptions are the only way Filerev makes money: no ads, and your data is never sold. The founder, Brett Batie, answers support emails himself.

Is Filerev free?

There is a permanent free plan: one scan per month of your My Drive (up to 1 million files), full results in the included categories, and 500 deletions or moves per month including Bulk Delete. Paid plans add more scans per month, higher deletion limits, filters, Shared Drive scanning and the Restore feature. See the pricing page for current plans.

Does Filerev read my files?

No. Filerev works from the metadata Google Drive already stores about each file: name, size, dates, owner, folder and a content fingerprint (hash) that Google computes. Duplicates are matched by that fingerprint, so files are only grouped together when their contents are byte-for-byte identical. Filerev does not download or open your files.

Can Filerev delete the wrong file?

Filerev never deletes anything on its own. It shows you what it found and you choose what to remove, one file at a time or in bulk with your own filters. Only exact duplicates are grouped, never look-alikes. Everything you delete goes to your Google Drive trash, where it can be recovered for 30 days, and the Restore All Files feature puts trashed items back into their original folders in one click.

Does Filerev work with Google Photos?

Filerev finds duplicate photos and videos stored in Google Drive, including Drive folders synced from your computer. It cannot access your Google Photos library, because Google does not provide an API for third-party apps to list or delete Google Photos items.

The free scan takes a few minutes for most accounts and shows you exactly what is using your storage before you decide anything.
