How are Empty Files Created in Google Drive?
Empty files can be created in many different ways, but the most common is from a failed upload or from starting to create a file but not finishing. If syncing files from a desktop computer, some programs will create empty files and fail to clean up.

How are Empty Folders Created in Google Drive?
Empty folders can start showing up in your account from many different sources. There are obvious ways these folders can get created, such as someone manually creating the folder and then forgetting about it and never using it. Then there are also the less obvious ways, such as when files no longer needed are removed, leaving behind an empty folder.

How To Find Empty Files in Google Drive
Click Scan My Drive to have Filerev search your Google Drive account for empty files. Or you can install our Android mobile app in the Google Play store or the Galaxy store. The app is also available as a Google Drive Add-on. As soon as you start the scan, Filerev will analyze the files in your Google Drive account and show you a summary of how your storage space is being used. Your files will be displayed in specific categories, one of which is the empty files category.
When viewing your empty files, you can use the Bulk Delete Tool to remove every empty file from your account quickly. You will also have access to powerful filters giving you control over the empty files that will be removed. For example, you can delete empty files in specific folders, created before specific dates, created by specific users or that have specific file extensions.
How to Find Empty Folders in Google Drive
Finding empty folders in Google Drive is similar to the above process when finding empty files. The significant difference is that you will want to look at the empty folders category. This category will show the empty folders and folders that only contain empty folders. The Bulk Delete Tool can be used to remove empty folders quickly. Filters can also be used to limit what will be cleaned up in this category.

- Clean up the mess by removing files that are not needed. You can filter your results, select your files individually and delete the selected files. Or bulk delete everything in the category using the Bulk Delete Tool.
